There is nothing small about the impact small businesses have on our economy

You may be running a small business, but there’s nothing small about the impact small businesses have on our country’s economy.

South Africa has hundreds of thousands of small businesses – so many that they contribute over half of our country’s gross domestic product and employ two-thirds of all South African workers. This means that, the more support they receive, the more people they can employ, and the more successful our country becomes – which is good news for your business too!

You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy from a small business and that’s kind of the same. When you shop at a small business, you impact the owner, the employees, their families, and the community. That’s a lot of happy people.

The time is now, to once again, mobilise South Africa to go BIG by supporting the SMALL. The National Small Business Chamber (NSBC), is gearing up and excited to celebrate Small Business Friday for the sixth successive year, it’s all happening next Friday, 01 September 2017 – The first Friday of Spring!

“The movement has gained incredible momentum over the past six years and we are very proud of our progress. It remains important to keep reminding people to get involved and support small business. There is no doubt that the movement is bringing about positive change and growth for all small businesses”, says Mike Anderson, Founder & CEO.

The countdown has now begun for South Africa’s biggest Small Business day of the year. Spread the word, help build the frenzy and be vocal about the small businesses you enjoy supporting. Importantly, small business glues together communities and above all, Small Business = Job Creation.

The NSBC is anticipating nationwide support for this special day, calling the nation to celebrate and recognise the importance of the small business community. By simply supporting local small businesses these small businesses will grow, employ more, reduce unemployment and nurture the country’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Small Business Friday is the day consumers pledge to support small businesses across the country, The National Small Business Chamber (NSBC), recognises the bravery and fortitude of these businesses, knowing that starting your own business is equal parts fear and elation.

“Our biggest message to a small business is that you don’t need to travel this challenging path alone. There are organisations such as ours that strive to assist and fuel the growth of small business in South Africa. We really want the nation to get behind this movement and ‘Go BIG’ by supporting the small,” says Anderson.

Anderson says that the NSBC is committed to helping SMEs grow, learn, network, connect, and be inspired to succeed: “We have over the years, through what we do, inspired and helped so many businesses succeed. We aim to put small businesses across South Africa firmly in the spotlight, by encouraging individuals to support, visit and spend at a small business all year round, especially on Fridays, and particularly on Small Business Friday falling on the first Friday of spring in September.
