6 steps to building your business with video marketing

According to Wyzowl’s the state of video marketing 2021 report, 94% of marketers say video has helped them increase their understanding of a product or service. 86% of marketers say video has helped them generate leads and 81% of marketers say video has helped them directly increase sales.

And on the consumer side:

  • 96% of people have watched an explainer video to learn more about a product or service.
  • 88% of people say that they’ve been convinced to buy a product or service by watching a brand’s video.
  • People are twice as likely to share video content with their friends than any other type of content, including social media posts, blog posts or articles, and product pages.

With these statistics in mind, we have good intel that creating video content for your business is lucrative. But how can you build your business with video marketing?

Let’s look at the six steps:

1. Define your goal for your video

Ideally, you want to create a video for each step of the sales funnel but in the beginning, try to identify in which section of the funnel your customers are getting stuck. Is it in the awareness, interest, decision, or action part of the sales funnel? When you have clearly defined which part of the sales funnel needs attention, you can define the video goal for your business. Remember when setting the goal of your video, it needs to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely.

2. Think about your business story

Research has told us people don’t buy products or services but rather the solution your offering promises to solve. So, consider who your ideal customer is, what is the pain point your offering solves, and why it’s the best on the market. Each video you make needs to fit into this broad storyline of your product. And when it comes to distributing your video, you need to know which platforms your customer uses to look at your type of product or service.

How much money and time do you have to dedicate to your video production? You will need to check your marketing budget and how much time you have to dedicate to your video. If you have a limited budget, there are a variety of places which will help you to create videos for your brand. They are:

4. Choose the type of video

There are a wide variety of videos which you can create for your business. Here are five to consider:

  • Explainer videos: These videos talk about the product or service you offer and how it solves the specific pain point you are targeting.
  • How-to videos: Here you will explain step by step how to do or make something. This video could show how your product can be used or it could explain how to assemble your product.
  • Educational videos: These exclude how-to videos but include any educational information you can give to your audience that will make you grow your brand as a thought leader in your industry.
  • Behind-the-scenes video: This gives your customers an insider view of what happens in your business.
  • Live video: Do you have an event or special occasion happening at your business? Live videos are a great way to build rapport and promote support with your online community.

5. Record the video

Lights. Action. Camera. If you have a smartphone, you can use it to record your video. You could also use the camera and microphone on your laptop. When you are recording a video ensure you have dressed the part and that the lighting in your space is good.

6. Distribute your video

After you have created your video and checked that you like what has been made and said in the video then it is time to distribute it. You can put it on your website, or on YouTube. For shorter videos, you can upload them on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok.
