In this interview, we find out more about Christo Coetzer (Founder and Director of BITM), his business journey, and why he believes South Africa should support small business.
Christo explains that BlueVision IT Management (BITM) is a South African home-grown multinational company that helps businesses with cyber security early intervention and threat detection.
He says that BITM does this by connecting the science of technology with cyber security through industry-leading frameworks, services, products, and solutions.
His goal was to establish a company that could deliver practical and effective products and services to address industry-related problems. The company is built on three core pillars that ensure it is practical, impactful and is constantly driven to create value.
What do you love the most about running your business?
Firstly, I absolutely love working with my team. They are the most supportive, dedicated, and committed team I have ever worked with. Without them, there would not be a BITM today. Secondly, we are wired to be puzzle builders and problem solvers. The team and I enjoy engaging with customers to understand their requirements and help them truly improve on their cyber security posture. We are doing this at a time when it is needed the most as cyber attacks are on a drastic rise. Our drive is to connect the science of technology and cyber security by using industry-leading frameworks, services, products, and solutions. We believe the success of our business is built on the quality of our deliverables.
What is one of the biggest lessons you have learned on your business journey?
One of the biggest lessons I have learnt is that the only constant in life (as well as in business within the cyber security industry) is change. Once you accept it and develop a business strategy to embrace it, you are on the path to continuous growth. The other is to constantly believe in yourself. Believe in why you started this journey and do your best to see it through.
What is your why? Why do you do what you do and what do you focus on to help you persevere and get through tough times?
In my junior years, I was torn between my entrepreneurial mindset and building my career within the corporate environment. I decided to start BITM with the goal of doing things differently in the industry – to constantly improve and address needs and cyber threats in an ongoing changing environment.
Why should South Africa support small businesses now and beyond?
By supporting a small business, you’re also supporting the local community. Support for small businesses helps to stimulate the local economy and keep business booming within South Africa. Small businesses help to create and sustain jobs in a time when it is most needed. The growth of our economy lies within small businesses.
