CIPC enhances systems to further reduce red tape

June 29, 2022 Starting a Business

Article provided by CIPC

The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) is making efforts to reduce the regulatory burden by easing and simplifying the way our customers transact, thus, enabling our customers to focus on growing their businesses.

As we forge forward with our objective of automating our registration and transacting platforms, we will be introducing updates to the CIPC e-Services and BizPortal websites on 3 July 2022. The newly improved platforms are an effort to integrate the CIPC systems into two transactional points for customers for better user experience, quicker turnaround times, and reduced administrative burden.

What customers can expect is a face-lift to both eServices as well as the BizPortal. Both platforms have been built on the principle of improved usability while adding additional functionality.

E-services will primarily focus on CIPC specific services, i.e. registering of businesses and changes to enterprises as well as annual returns.

The Bizportal will continue to provide company registration as well as other integrated services, which are because of the collaborative efforts with other regulators and the banks, for example.

Additional functionality on both eServices and Bizportal will include:

  • Simplified foreign director verification
  • Annual Return simplification and value added services – customers will be able to file additional services when doing an annual return submission. Examples include director changes, name changes, address changes
  • Automated director changes  – this will apply to resignation of directors when the directors file the application.

Customers are encouraged to give feedback on the usability of the enhanced systems through our social media platforms as we are constantly looking for ways to improve the execution of our mandate.
