Do you live for the weekend? Are you constantly being distracted while working on your business? Do you feel like throwing in the towel? Then it’s time to rekindle your passion for your small business. Like any relationship, there are ebbs and flows in your business but if you don’t work at it to be successful, it can start to decline. Here are five steps to help resuscitate your passion for your business.
Step 1: Remember the early days
Think back to when you started your business. How did you feel when you landed your first customer? How did it feel when you got paid for your first transaction? Why did you start your business? By reviewing your core motivators for starting your business, you can see if they still ring true or if they have changed. If they have changed, then you need to review what services or products you need to add or remove to remain in line with what your current core motivators are.
STEP 2: Find your anchor
Being an entrepreneur can be a lonely endeavour especially if you don’t have a business partner. Find a group of inspirational and passionate business owners to network with. These should be people who can help you navigate back on track when you find yourself out to sea and being bashed by the storms. Being able to have someone to bounce ideas off and who challenges and supports you is a great asset for any small business owner.
STEP 3: Delegate the clutter
Do you have a to-do list that is longer than the day? Then you need to dissect it. Examine each of the tasks and see if you can either eliminate, automate, or delegate the task. By trimming down these tasks, you will have items on your list which help you to bring value to your business and concentrate on actions that will help you to grow your business.
STEP 4: Examine your processes
Look at all the processes in your business. Get the stakeholders of the processes together and see how you can streamline the process so there are fewer mistakes, and more work can be done productively and efficiently.
STEP 5: Take time out
All work and no play wreaks havoc with your team and you. It is important to take time out and relax. Do things that bring you joy. You may even notice while you are relaxing that you find ways to solves problems that have been hounding you for some time. By allowing your brain to reconfigure, you will be able to step back into your business with a newfound passion.
By following these five steps, you will be able to bring life back to your business. You will be reminded why you fell in love with your business before and feed off the new boost of passion for your business to take it to the next level.
