After the better part of 18 months of late nights and much frustration, I can now add the tag ‘Published Author’ to my bio. My mom was always of the opinion I should write a book, but in her defence, she did not intend for it to be a book about trusts and tax.
So, why did I feel the need to write a book on a topic such as trusts and tax? I suppose it comes down to removing anxiety and making things easier.
I have been in the trust and tax field for the better part of 20 years, and I can honestly say few things excite me as much as figures, tax and simplifying complex concepts.
For years I have been looking for an easy-to-understand book, user guide or user manual that would not intimidate and would simplify the concept of trusteeship. I can honestly say I am surrounded by a personal library of tax and law textbooks collected over years, but none of the books I love so much made the concept of trusteeship easy to understand.
So, what do we do when we can’t find what we’re looking for? We make it happen ourselves. I decided to take my years of experience, knowledge, and education; add and simplify content from my library, and create a simple to understand, easy-to-use book and user manual for trustees.
What to expect
The purpose of this book is
- to clarify trustee roles and responsibilities.
- to explain the technical stuff, tax rules and consequences – in an approachable manner.
I have distilled the most essential information cutting out pages of tax law and court cases.
And the best part, I’ve managed to condense the most relevant need-to-know information in less than 99 pages to ensure a super easy and fast read.
Who is it for?
This book was written to assist trustees, financial planners, and accountants. If you are a trustee, thinking of forming a trust, advising on trusts or have an interest in trusts this book will make for great reading.
What readers had to say?
“I have been a trustee for years but always relied very heavily on trust administrators and accountants. Since reading this book I have elevated the level of knowledge, communication, questions, and inputs I’ve had about the trust. I finally feel like an active participant with valuable contributions.” – Innocente
“This book was so easy to read and understand. I recommend this book if you want to learn more about trusts and trusteeship.” – AM
Excerpt from the book
In many ways, a trust is like a living organism. It requires constant care, attention and monitoring to ensure it is functioning optimally. The many rules and procedures around the correct administration and governing of a trust make it a complicated and time-consuming task, but once you get your head around the technical aspects, trusteeship can be a rewarding experience.
But before we get to the nitty-gritty technical stuff, we’re going to cover the basics to ensure that you have a solid foundation from which to build.
What is a trust?
A trust, in the broadest sense, is a legal arrangement where a person, called a trustee, controls, and manages property for and on behalf of someone else.
Why form a trust?
A trust is a great way to protect and care for yourself and your family while you are alive. It also facilitates leaving behind what you have, and what is needed, to who you want, the way you want when you pass away. It can also save legal fees, administrative and court costs, and taxes to the maximum extent that is legally possible.
Trusts are formed for a variety of reasons, …
