SassyChic.co.za is an online women’s boutique with a fashion, lingerie and beauty product offering. It was started in 2011 by Roxanne Page and her mother and fellow entrepreneur, Karen Spies. Neither of them had any fashion merchandising or eCommerce experience, but have embraced all the learning opportunities SassyChic and the local fashion and online retail industry have afforded them.
As a business owner, it is inevitable that at some point on our journey we will hit that T-junction or worse the ‘Brick Wall’. This ‘life happening’ and ‘what to do now’, is not taught at Business School. At this point, most throw in the towel, but there are some who dig deep and keep moving. This is what makes a true entrepreneur. The ultimate success factor is overcoming adversity and bouncing back.
By Mark Berger - Mark Berger Training: Years ago, we bought an expensive photo copy machine for our business. The 'Sales Rep' got us to sign the contract, made their commission and went on to find the next customer. We never saw them again. However, at least once every 3 months, a 'technician' would come to our offices to service the machine. As he was a 'technical person', he never asked us any 'sales' questions. He never asked if we needed paper (we were not even aware that their company sold paper). He never asked us if we would like additional functionality, such as scanning or faxing (we never knew the machine could do that). He never offered to upgrade us to a newer, more suitable machine (we thought ours was doing just fine!).
