The 5th Small Business Friday has arrived. Today, 02 September is South Africa’s biggest small business day of the year. This powerful and meaningful movement is about mobilising all South Africans to support and buy from their local small businesses today, and every day thereafter.
Mike Anderson, CEO and founder of NSBC, says that entrepreneurship is one of the cornerstones of the South African economy and it is thus vital to sustain this sector: “Small Business Friday has gained incredible momentum over the past five years, the NSBC together with Title Sponsors, Nedbank, are very proud of the progress. It remains important to keep reminding people to get involved and support small business.”
Anderson says that the support and build up to today has been incredible: “The NSBC and Nedbank anticipates enormous, nationwide support for this special movement. It’s a one-day, high action drive on the first Friday of Spring every year, aimed at celebrating and recognising the importance of the small business community. We really want people to ‘Go BIG’ by supporting small business.”
The NSBC and Nedbank are excited to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Small Business Friday movement. Anderson says that there is wonderful irony in the number five as it is the most dynamic and energetic of all the single-digit numbers: “Number five is always in motion and constantly in need of change, just like our industry. We are hopeful that together with Nedbank and the community, Small Business Friday will bring about positive change and growth for all small businesses and that entrepreneurship will prosper.”
Anderson says that by simply committing to a few simple tasks, will help drive the movement and of course strengthen the small business sector. The direct effect is alleviating unemployment, driving job creation and nurturing the country’s entrepreneurial spirit.
